Since I&#8217;ve already decided my year-of-death, deciding on the  length of my career was even easier. I&#8217;m designing until I&#8217;m 85 years  old, that gives me a total of 65 years of design time, 10 of which I&#8217;ve  already spent. Design isn&#8217;t manual labor, I can keep doing it until my  mind goes kaput.<\/p>\n<p>Whatever I do each year needs to fuel, support, or progress towards the core of the career. This includes:<br \/>\n* Continued Experimentation<br \/>\n* Continued Exploration<br \/>\n* Continued Learning<br \/>\n* Continued Development<br \/>\n* Earning Credibility (for opportunities, decision making, setting a vision)<br \/>\n* Earning Trust from colleagues, industry, and academia<br \/>\n* Earning Recognition (for opportunities, bigger better projects)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Soft Skills Development (for design communication) <\/strong><br \/>\nCreativity, Leadership, Presentation, Charisma, Empathy, Commitment<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hard (physical) Skills Development (for designing quality, better) <\/strong><br \/>\nClasses, seminars, workshops (drawing cars, fixing cars, personal projects &#8211; Drawing, illustration, photography, websites book)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Academic\/Cognitive Skills Development (for designing smarter) <\/strong><br \/>\nClasses, Seminars, Lectures, Conferences, Blogs<\/p>\n<p><strong>Technology (for designing more, faster) <\/strong><br \/>\nTechnology, productivity gadgets, relevancy to modern age (iphone, monitors, social network sites, internet sites)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Health (for designing longer) <\/strong><br \/>\nLow Stress, Sleep, Food<\/p>\n<p><strong>Awareness (for design relevancy) <\/strong><br \/>\nTrend Watching, Cross pollinating ideas, convergence, world observation, new events<\/p>\n<p><strong>Inspiration (for design originality) <\/strong><br \/>\nDomestic and International Travel, New things<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>When I was 14, I woke one one morning and decided to live a 100 more years.
